Another Half Of Me - Chapter 5

“The meeting is in Bangalore and I need to leave for it as soon as possible,” Sid said with an impatient breath. He was doing his best to arrange for a flight.

Siddha strolled in as Sid put down the phone with a bang. Smiling, he sat down and pushed some papers towards Sid. “Relax, kiddo, the jet will be here soon.” “It’s stuck due to bad weather in Shillong. And, this meeting has to happen in the next 2 days because after that I am leaving for London, if you don’t remember,” Sid said in an exasperated tone.

“Then I’ll go. You leave for London as planned and I’ll take of Bangalore. Let me arrange for a flight,” Siddha said with a smiling face and left.

Rudy put down the phone as Siddha walked in his office. “Arrange for a Bangalore flight. We need to leave soon. Also inform everybody there, especially Balaram ji.” Another meeting: another deal: another construction. Closing his eyes, Siddha felt a tell-tale tiredness in him; not physical but mental. It’s been 7 long years now since he took over the business at the age of 21.

The business was started by his great grandfather, Siddheshwar Singh Rajput after whom he had been named. After he passed away, his son, Shanker Singh Rajput, Siddha’s grandfather took over the business along with his partner Thakur Durgesh Singh, Siddha’s maternal grandfather.

Some years later, his sons, Chandrakant Singh Rajput, Siddha’s father and Bhawani Singh Rajput, Sid’s father took over the business. They were a very happy family but suddenly tragedy stuck when Siddha’s parents, Chandrakant and Subhani passed away in car accident. Siddha was only 5 years at that time. His aunt, Veena and uncle Bhawani took over his parenting since then.

As Siddha entered college life, he understood the fact that he was different from others as he belonged to a very high profile family. Friendship was the first thing that thrilled his heart when he was completing his MBA. Karan, Prashant, Amit and Siddha were a group known for their good grades and notorious antics. Whether it was Karan’s escapades to the girl hostel in the night, Prashant’s mischievous ways of pestering professors, Amit’s escaping at night to meet Sudha, his girlfriend or Siddha’s drunken antics on the street: they stuck together.

Slowly when Sid became a little sensible, then he also joined their group. Being his elder brother, Siddha had never stopped him from doing anything. Let him make his own mistakes and he will learn, Siddha always told his uncle.

Siddha reminiscence was broken with Rudy’s call. His flight had been booked. He would be leaving for Bangalore tonight. Good old Rudy. Ask him to do a job, and you know it will be done. Been with Siddha for more than 7 years now: bodyguard and closest aid. Rudy was his shadow. Always there with him.

Siddha closed his eyes and thought about all the people in his life. Every one of them loved him crazily. But, still there was something missing. There had always been since his parents passed away.

The ringing of the phone brought him out of his reminiscence again. Sandhya, his fiancé. He answered the call and spoke for few minutes, but disconnected in irritation. He senses must have been twisted when he had agreed to get engaged to Sandhya. She was one money-minded chick who would never know the real meaning of a relationship. She only knew how to possess. Possession was her obsession. It had been 2 years since they had got engaged but still he was not ready to get married.

Sighing, Siddha got up and left. Time for some business.
