Another Half Of Me - Chapter 41

Prashant turned and looked at them bewildered and confused.

“Who is alive?”

Sid was about to say something when Rudy stopped him. He was looking straight at Siddha, whose gaze was transfixed at them.

As the words slowly registered in his mind, Siddha body started to tremble with realisation. His vision clouded with tears as the words echoed in his ears.

She is alive. Roshni is alive.

He got up from the bed without caring where his laptop and phone fell. All he wanted to do was reach her.

**************

The car neared Tania’s house and Siddha jumped out without even waiting for the car to stop. He ran up the stairs and was about to enter, when Tania blocked his way.

“Please Bhaiyya, stop.”

He tried to his best to shove her out of the way but was stopped by Sid and Rudy. Prashant, Karan and Amit ran up to him as he angrily struggled to get inside the house.

“Bhai, please, wait,” Sid implored standing in between him and Tania. He knew too well that they will not be able to stop Siddha from entering the house. Quickly, he gestured to Tania to close the door of Roshni’s room.

They let go of him and Siddha sped past them towards the door but found a huge lock there. He held the lock in his hands and tried his best to break it but couldn’t. He locked his one hand to the rods of the window of the room and pulled hard at the lock with one hand. As he went back and forth, his gaze fell inside the room. He froze the moment his eyes rested on her.

Roshni was sitting on the bed slumped against the pillow, staring straight ahead in space.

Siddha clutched the rods of the window with effort and just looked. His gaze travelled over her face as he tried his best to get a fill of her. Slowly the bleakness surrounding his heart started to ebb but suddenly a dreaded fear started to crawl its way up to his mind.

Why isn’t she moving? Why isn’t she blinking? What has happened to her?

Slowly as the truth dawned on him, his eyes blurred with tears as his mind registered the visible scars on her body.

“Roshni, Roshni, Roshni, Roshni,” he kept repeating her name again and again in an anguished and painful tone.

They stood next to him trying to take him away from there but none of them could make him loosen the grip on the rods.

Blinking hard, Siddha looked at her willing her to look at him.

Roshni’s heart suddenly became alive with the sensation of a familiar voice calling her name. It was him. She could feel his breath and voice around her. Her body shook hard as she saw him in front of her.

This time I’ll not spare you.

Finding a life of its own, her right hand picked up the tray lying on the table next to her and threw it at the window with all the strength in her body.

Siddha’s eyes widened as he saw the tray coming at him but he did not move. He knew too well that Roshni hated him. The tray hit his hand hard but he still did not budge. Slowly he slid to the floor sobbing hard as Tania pacified Roshni with a sedative.

Rudy held him in his arms trying hard to console but Siddha kept sobbing relentlessly. He could live with the fact that Roshni hated him but how will he live with her being in such as state?

*******************

Siddha was standing at the balcony when Sid and Tania came and stood beside him.

“How is she?”

Tania looked at him and said, “She is sleeping right now.” Looking at her watch, she continued, “I should be going. She will wake up any minute now.”

“Is this only time she has reacted till now?”

Stopping in her tracks, Tania turned towards Siddha and said, “She only reacts when she feels you around her. And, that is the reason I will not allow you to meet her again. You have seen what happens to her.”

“What if it cures her?”

“No, Bhaiyya, I’ll not let you do this.” Looking at Sid, she gestured him to make Siddha understand.

“Bhai, she will harm you again. You have seen it yourself. Please, don’t.”

“Sid, I don’t care. If that brings her back to life then I’ll do it again and again,” Siddha replied with conviction and started to walk towards her room.

“But that’s suicidal,” Karan said trying to reason with him.

“Do you think I am alive right now? 5 years of pain and anger and you still want her to stay like this. Why? Because, it’s going to hurt me,” Siddha’s said losing his patience completely.

“For once, guys think about her and stop bothering about me. I am the reason for her suffering like this. So, I should be the one putting an end to it. Even it kills me.”
